This portfolio is part of the "D1X Experience Report"

After a brief test to understand a new camera we usually just do what we always do and try to get some nice photos of our preferred subjects: flowers, birds, landscape and architecture.

Grebe Chick (AF-S 300 f/4 + TC-20E, ISO 400, Bibble 2.99e)

We still follow the young birds like Grebes, Canada Geese, Coot, Ducks, .... The D1x at ISO 400, using a double extender and difficult light made still a reasonable photo of this lovely bird. A sample print on the Olympus P-400 came out quite usable in Letter size. But even if this photo might not be great in technical terms the expression of the Grebe is just lovely.

Result: ISO 400 shots get a bit noisy but otherwise quite usable with the D1x. Also one get the impression of more noise at 100% viewing ratio than with the D1 as the D1x files have double the resolution compared to the D1.

Flowers at Villa Filoli (Nikkor 105 f/2.8 Micro, ISO 160, Bibble 2.99e)

During the recent weeks we often visited Villa Filoli for flower photography. The results from the D1x were very good in color and also resolution.

Result: The D1X is great at ISO 160 in resolution and also color. Nothing to complain in terms of image quality.

Los Gatos "Ristorante" (AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8, ISO 125, Bibble 2.99e)

If you are for some time a reader of our magazine you have seen photos of the beautiful Los Gatos restaurant here before. To be very clear this shot is as good or better than any photo we have ever done before (check it out in full size as part of our sample portfolio).

Result: Top quality at ISO 125 and very good matching color.
