One of the nicest travel lenses is the new Canon
24-105mm f/4 IS lens (it shows some distortion that you can fix easily
with PTLens).
Because we hardly touch the wide-angle range we can use the excellent
Nikkor AF-S 28-70mm lens on the D2x (a bit bulky and heavy though).

Nikon D2x at 70mm (1/125 sec, f/10, ISO 320), FOV 105mm
Note on colors:
Both images were converted with different RAW converters. The real
colors are probably in the middle :-).
For travel photography both cameras performed
