Monterey Fisherman's Wharf

This morning we planned to have a trip to Point Lobos and Big Sur. But then we changed our plans and spent the day at Monterey Fisherman's Wharf. Unfortunately we only had some fog and overcast for the first few minutes.

Fishing is still a Monterey business (Canon 1D Mk. II + 400mm f/4 DO)

Monterey Wildlife

The light was unforgiving but nevertheless we captured some lovely animals.

Brown Pelican (Canon 1D Mk. II + 400mm f/4 DO + 1.4x tele extender)

Sea Otter (Canon 1D Mk. II + 400mm f/4 DO + 1.4x tele extender)

The photo of the sea otter is a crop although we consider this quite close (remember the 400mm + 1.4x tele converter + 1.3x multiplier make it the equivalent of about 728mm, proof that wild life and birds need very long lenses).

The next photos were all taken with our Leica Digilux 2. We are very pleased with the results (shot as JPG) and did very few corrections.

Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf is a very nice place to photograph even when it is a touristy hotspot. We will come back soon and hope to capture some sea otters at overcast.
