We have reviewed in the past tools like Akvis Enhancer, PhotoLift and Photomatix Tonemapping. All these tools implement local contrast enhancements.
During our research for high quality detail extraction we exchanged ideas with our friend Chris Russ from Reindeer Graphics. Chris is known as the author of Optipix (a highly regarded set of Photoshop plugins) and an expert on image processing for forensics. During our discussions Chris showed a way to improve detail. We got fascinated by these ideas and created our first tool for Detail Extraction.
