Moab Entrada

subjective evaluation by Uwe Steinmueller

The Art of Digital Fine Art printing
"....I am very impressed with the book you are about to read. It’s information like this that has helped to raise the quality of digital output and reduce the traditional art world’s resistance to the use of digital tools in art. It is a book written by someone who KNOWS fine art digital printmaking. Uwe’s style is concise and to the point. This comprehensive and complete guide to fine art digital printmaking should be included in the library of anyone who is serious about making fine art digital prints...."

On Entrada Bright White

Strengths:

  • relatively fine texture though I noted more course texture in the 300 gm. weight version - a bit too much for small prints, fine 13X19 and up
  • reasonably priced
  • good profiles available
  • a very white paper - almost blue white
  • good blacks
  • coated both sides
  • this has been my standard paper for two years. The 300 weight is robust and handles well even in 44 inch rolls.

Weaknesses:

  • like all art papers it has to be hand fed - I found even the 190 gm. paper had to be hand fed on my Epson 4000 though Michael Reichmann was able to bulk feed from the tray.
  • so white it's very hard to find a matte board that doesn't look dingy and yellow next to it
  • the occasional sheet has a small blue-gray mark on it - about one box in two or three has one sheet like this - only shows on one side

Excellent papers and reasonable priced. Also the 190 gram version helps to save money on sample prints.

Eric Chan

  • Average d-max but large color gamut
  • Two sides are different, though both have receptive coatings: one
is slightly more textured than the other
  • Have noticed with some batches that when print (with K3 inks) is
held at an angle, there seem to be a few shiny sparkly dots --
distracting; not sure why this is
